Ms. Carrie’s first job was as a classroom teacher in West Michigan. Her class had both English-only-speaking students and Spanish-only-speaking students. “We used Spanish and English everyday in every school situation to really build a community.” She became a specialist in first and second language acquisition in children.

Ms. Carrie has a special interest in assistive technology and she also wishes she was a mermaid: she loves the water! She was on the sailing team in college, and now she sails and paddles all summer long. Ms. Carrie and her husband have 3 sons, 2 dogs, 2 bunnies, 1 lizard, and a cat. In her spare time, Ms. Carrie volunteers at Potter Park Zoo as an educational docent. Her favorite animals at the zoo are the black rhinos, the penguins, and the Massasauga rattlesnake.
